The Israeli Army’s Intelligence services head, Aharon Haliva, announced his resignation on October 7th. This came after the events of the same day, which led to numerous casualties and abductions. Haliva stated that he was responsible for the attacks and called for an investigation into the security failures surrounding them.

In his resignation letter, Haliva admitted that the Intelligence Division was not adequately prepared for the task at hand and acknowledged the weight of responsibility entrusted to him. He urged the establishment of a state committee to thoroughly investigate the events that led to the attacks.

The decision to resign was approved by Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who praised Haliva’s dedication during his 38 years of service and his contributions to national security. His resignation marks a significant event as it is the first time a high-ranking official in Israel has resigned due to security failures. Following his resignation, opposition leader Yair Lapid has called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to follow suit. Lapid emphasized the importance of taking responsibility for failures, as demonstrated by Haliva.
