International Call for Unity and Elections in Libya Amid Political Tensions

The European Union and the diplomatic missions of its member states in Libya have called on the country’s leaders to find a permanent political solution that will lead to a unified government and eventually hold national elections. However, the “National Gathering of Libyan Parties” has condemned the recent arrest of Ali Bousbiha Al-Hasnawi, who leads the reconciliation team associated with presidential candidate Saif al-Islam Gaddafi.

In a joint statement, the European mission and diplomatic missions of EU member states in Libya highlighted the challenges facing unity, stability, and prosperity in the country. They urged Libyan leaders to come together and work towards a lasting political solution that will result in a unified government and national elections. Furthermore, the European Union and its member states have pledged to support the mediation efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya. On the other hand, the National Gathering of Libyan Parties denounced Bousbiha’s arrest and called for his immediate release, citing his role in national reconciliation.
