On April 19, the Dong Thap Health Department held a press conference to share initial information about the tragic event of a three-day-old baby boy who died due to acute respiratory failure caused by infant digestive fluid aspiration syndrome. The baby was born on April 15 at Dong Thap Military and Civilian Hospital, but his condition deteriorated despite being closely monitored following the delivery.

The pregnant 22-year-old woman had reported her baby’s fever and vomiting to the doctor twice on April 18. Despite noting a mild fever and normal blood oxygen levels, the baby’s condition continued to worsen until he was found pale and unresponsive. The family had posted reaction videos on social media, which prompted the health department to hold a press conference to share information with the public.

According to health officials, newborns are most vulnerable in the first 28 days of life, making it crucial for proper care and monitoring. The Dong Thap Department of Health pledged to retrain medical staff on obstetric emergencies and postpartum care as well as educate the public on essential care for newborns to prevent future tragedies.
