Two Indian boxers, Abhinash Jamwal and Nishant Dev, will be making their Olympic debut on Sunday. Jamwal, weighing 63.5kg, will take on Andriejus Lavrenovas of Lithuania in his first bout, while Nishant, weighing 71kg, will face Amando Bighafa of Guinea-Bissau.

India has already secured three Paris 2024 Olympic boxing quotas through the performances of Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain in the women’s 75kg category, two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen in the women’s 50kg category, and Preeti Pawar in the women’s 54kg category. The determination to secure more quotas has led to seven men and three women from India participating in the second World Olympic Qualifier.

The Paris Games selection for Indian athletes depends on their National Olympic Committee’s (NOC) decision to represent their country at the Olympics. In Thailand, there are three quotas available in the women’s 60kg, men’s 57kg, and men’s 80kg divisions, with five quotas each in the men’s 63.5kg and 71kg divisions. The remaining nine categories have four quotas each.

Indian boxers failed to qualify for any quotas at the first World Boxing Qualification Tournament held in March in Busto Arsizio, Italy.
