The New York venue will be hosting nine of the 20 teams participating in this year’s T20 World Cup, including arch-rivals India and Pakistan. The most highly anticipated match at the venue will take place on 9 June when these two teams face off in their ongoing rivalry.
Aside from India and Pakistan, other teams playing at the New York venue include host USA, neighbors Canada, Ireland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, and Bangladesh. The tournament director Hough is hopeful that the T20 pitch at the venue will have good pace, bounce and will offer value for shots to the players. The goal is to create an exciting and competitive atmosphere for the matches by allowing batters to play shots all over the ground.
The venue has been specially constructed for the tournament and conditions are expected to provide a fair contest between bat and ball. Tournament director Hough explains that from the start of planning there was an ambition to produce pitches that align with these objectives of providing a fair contest between bat and ball while also providing value for shots to players so they can showcase their skills on this unique stage.
