Google has announced that its smallest large language model (LLM), Gemini Nano, will soon be available on the standard version of the Pixel 8 smartphone family, starting in June. The optimized model is designed to run generative AI directly on the device, just like the Pixel 8 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

Despite being previously stated that LLM would not reach the Pixel 8 due to hardware limitations, Google’s vice president of devices and software services, Seang Chau, has now confirmed that it will indeed come to the device. The LLM adapted for smartphones will be released alongside new functionalities with Android 14 QPR3 in June.

In a developer preview, new features such as ‘Summary’ in the recorder tool and Gboard Smart Reply will be available on the Pixel 8. This announcement was made on the Made by Google Podcast, indicating that it will come in the next few months.
