Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly emphasized the increasing impact of global events on local economics and politics during a meeting with federal and city leaders on Wednesday. He declared the day as “Global Engagement Day” and highlighted the importance of foreign trade, investment, and relations in promoting local communities in the international arena.

Mayor Kelly pointed to the significant investments made by foreign companies such as Volkswagen, Komatsu, Wacker Polysilicon, Nippon Paint, Sanofi, and Gestamp in Chattanooga. These investments have brought billions of dollars in dividends to the region, showcasing the benefits of international engagement.

The meeting brought together nearly two dozen city and state leaders to discuss strategies for effectively competing and promoting local communities on a global scale. The top State Department official also emphasized the necessity for local leaders to engage in global efforts to ensure economic growth and success for their communities. By participating in global events and forging international relationships, cities like Chattanooga can secure their position in the international market and attract valuable investments.
