Florida State University (FSU) and Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare recently announced their partnership to develop an academic health center in Tallahassee and a medical campus in Panama City Beach. This collaboration is aimed at transforming the healthcare ecosystem in North Florida.

FSU President Richard McCullough expressed his enthusiasm for this collaboration, emphasizing the importance of establishing a nonprofit corporation to oversee research and clinical education decisions. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) solidifies the relationship between FSU and TMH, setting forth the basic operating and governance structure for their partnership within the FSU Health initiative. The agreement marks a crucial step towards the realization of a $125 million academic health center funded by the Legislature and Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2022. Construction is set to commence on the Tallahassee Memorial property, with a completion target of 2026.

In addition to the health center in Tallahassee, FSU is working with Tallahassee Memorial and The St. Joe Co. to establish a medical campus in Panama City Beach. This facility is set to open later this year, further expanding the reach and impact of FSU Health in the region. The collaboration between FSU and TMH reflects a shared commitment to advancing healthcare services, education, and research in North Florida and beyond.

This partnership will bring together experts from both institutions to provide cutting-edge healthcare services that will improve patient outcomes, advance medical knowledge, and create economic opportunities for the region. It will also help bridge gaps in healthcare access, particularly for underserved populations.

The development of an academic health center is an important milestone for FSU’s Health initiative as it will provide students with hands-on learning experiences that align with their academic goals while also contributing to the advancement of medical knowledge through research.

Overall, this partnership between FSU and TMH represents a significant investment in healthcare services, education, and research in North Florida. It demonstrates a shared commitment among these institutions to work together towards creating positive change for patients, communities, and researchers alike.
