In 1984, the News Tribune & Herald reported that plans for a high-tech high school in Duluth to attract gifted students from across the state might be replaced by legislative plans for a similar school located elsewhere. There was concern that the vision for this specialized school could be overshadowed or changed by competing legislative proposals.

On March 21, 1924, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported that the ice in the Duluth-Superior harbor was averaging 23 inches thick, with an ice field extending 100 miles into the west end of Lake Superior. On the same day in 1954, officials from the U.S. Rivers and Harbors Board recommended relocating the entire village of Odanah, Wisconsin, 1 mile to higher ground to avoid flood damage. This move was suggested as a preventative measure to protect the village.

In March 2004, Senator Yvonne Prettner Solon proposed a bill to place all children in Minnesota into a large health care purchasing pool for increased leverage. The state would eventually cover all health insurance premiums for children under this plan. These legislative efforts were part of ongoing discussions and proposals within the state government.
