Growing up in a town, Patrick Smith always dreamt of having a horse. However, it wasn’t until his family moved to the country that he got the chance to fulfill that dream. His new neighbors were offering riding lessons, which Smith eagerly signed up for at the age of 16. With no prior experience with horses, Smith immediately fell in love with riding and was soon introduced to the world of team roping.

Smith admits that once he got started, he quickly became addicted to team roping, particularly heeling. To fund his newfound passion, he got a job at Chili’s, determined to keep pursuing his love for the sport. As he started competing and winning, Smith’s enthusiasm only grew. Describing it as pouring gasoline on a fire, he found himself falling deeper in love with team roping.

Opting to invest in a horse instead of a truck, Smith’s decision paid off when he won his first World Title in 2005 with that same horse. His success didn’t stop there, as he went on to clinch another World Title in 2010. Today, Smith has become a $2 million team roper, solidifying his place as a prominent figure in the sport.
