Kimberly Bedoya, a Connecticut woman who survived a harrowing encounter, is urging all women to be prepared in case they find themselves in a vulnerable situation. She takes Krav Maga classes, a form of Israeli martial arts used for self-defense, at Breakthru Fitness in Stamford, Connecticut. In 2023, while driving in Trumbull, Bedoya spilled hot coffee and got out of her car. She dropped her phone and saw a man approaching her in the distance. Despite feeling alone, she initially declined his offer of help. However, when he came up behind her and grabbed her, Bedoya relied on her training to react. She kicked him in the groin, stomach, and then pushed him away before quickly getting back into her car and driving off.

Tom Bacha from Breakthru Fitness commends Bedoya’s quick thinking and ability to defend herself in a dangerous situation. Bedoya credits her training with giving her both the mental and physical skills necessary to escape unharmed. She emphasizes that being prepared and confident is key in such scenarios.

Bacha also stresses that not every situation warrants physical confrontation; sometimes the best course of action is simply to leave the area if feeling threatened.

This experience has shown Bedoya the importance of learning self-defense techniques as it helped her avoid potential harm and return home safely. She acknowledges that even though she has only scratched the surface of what she can learn, the skills she has acquired were enough to protect herself when it mattered.

Overall, Bedoya’s story serves as a reminder for women to be proactive in their own safety and take steps to empower themselves in potentially dangerous situations.
