Bronny James has announced his decision to enter the NBA draft after completing one season at Southern California, which was shortened due to his recovery from cardiac arrest. Despite the challenges he faced, the 19-year-old expressed his growth as a man, student, and athlete during his time at USC. He also revealed his intention to retain his college eligibility by entering the transfer portal.

The timing of James’ announcement coincided with USC introducing Eric Musselman as its new coach, following the departure of Andy Enfield to SMU. Despite his family ties to basketball legend LeBron James, Bronny emphasized that he made his decision independently. LeBron has shown his unwavering support for his son, recognizing that Bronny has tough choices to make.

During his time at USC, James started six out of 25 games, averaging 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds. His shooting percentages were 37% from the field, 27% from 3-point range, and 68% from the free throw line. LeBron, along with his wife and younger daughter, were regular attendees at USC games, showing their support for Bronny’s college career.

LeBron James Jr., better known as Bronny James, is a highly sought-after prospect in the upcoming NBA draft class of 2021. Despite facing many obstacles during his time at Southern California University (USC), including a serious health scare that cut short a promising freshman year for him and for many others on campus due to COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns in early March 2020 when he was only two weeks away from playing in NCAA Tournament matchups against BYU and Duke before they were canceled indefinitely because of positive COVID-19 tests among players on both teams – he remained determined to play college basketball while still focusing on pursuing a dream of playing alongside father LeBron James in the NBA.

In an interview with ESPN’s Chris Webber earlier this month, Bronny talked about how much he had learned during his time at USC – “I think it’s been a great experience,” said Bronny. “I’ve grown as a person – mentally and physically.” While it may have seemed like an unusual choice given their family ties and history with basketball legends such as Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant who played for USC’s men’s basketball team – Bronny emphasized that he had made an independent decision.

His father LeBron has expressed nothing but support for him throughout this journey despite their differing opinions on certain matters like where should he go next after completing one season at Southern California.

“My focus is always going to be on what’s best for my son,” said LeBron during an interview with ESPN earlier this month while discussing their conversation about NBA draft prospects.

“I think it’s important that we find the right development situation,” added Rich Paul CEO of Klutch Sports Management which represents both father and son.

With more options than ever before in terms of where he could play next year or even sign immediately upon declaring for the draft – including interest from Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr who recently spoke publicly about wanting him on their team – it seems like there are plenty of opportunities ahead for this young talented athlete who continues to grow not just as a player but also as a person despite facing challenges beyond anyone else’s imagination.
