On April 8th, a rare total solar eclipse will pass over North Texas and other regions of the United States. According to NASA, this event occurs when the moon moves between the sun and Earth, completely blocking the sun’s face. The sky will darken for those in the path of totality, as if it were dawn or dusk.

In Fort Worth, totality will begin at 1:40 p.m. and end at 1:43 p.m., while in Dallas it will begin at 1:40 p.m. and end at 1:44 p.m. As people prepare for this unique event, there is curiosity about how animals will react to the sudden darkness.

The Dallas Zoo is making preparations for this occasion by anticipating that African crested porcupines, who spend most of their time in dark dens, may be curious but won’t act differently during the darkness. Fort Worth Zoo’s Associate Mammal Curator Melissa Blair is also preparing for the eclipse, anticipating that animals may be curious but doesn’t expect them to act differently during the darkness.

Both zoos are inviting North Texans to join them in observing the eclipse. The Fort Worth Zoo is collaborating with a researcher to study animal behavior during the event, with worksheets provided for participants to contribute to the research. At the Dallas Zoo, tickets purchased in advance come with a pair of eclipse glasses and eclipse-themed food will be available for visitors to enjoy while they watch this fascinating celestial event unfold.

Visitors can not only witness this unique celestial event but also see how animals react to it, providing a fascinating perspective on nature’s response to natural phenomena.

In conclusion, on April 8th people from all over North Texas and other parts of America can witness an incredible total solar eclipse that will pass over their area while observing how animals react to this celestial event at their local zoos; an experience that promises both wonderment and education about nature’s response to natural phenomena!
