In 2024, U.S. News & World Report released its rankings for the best states in the US, and Florida came in at number nine overall. This was an improvement from its previous ranking of number ten. Florida was specifically recognized for its education system, which held onto the top spot in the country for the second year running. Additionally, the state jumped six places to claim the top spot for economy.

Florida’s education system was praised for its high rates of timely graduation at public institutions and low in-state tuition amounts. The state also excelled in college readiness, as demonstrated by strong SAT and ACT scores. On the economic front, Florida’s strong job market and overall economic growth were cited as key factors that contributed to its top ranking in this category.

The population of Florida has increased by 18% since 2010, with many people drawn to the state by its warm weather, lack of state income tax, and perceived lower cost of living. While Florida performed well in education and economy, it also received rankings in other categories such as number thirteen for Crime & Corrections, natural environment, fiscal stability, infrastructure, health care and opportunity.

Overall, Florida’s performance in these rankings highlights its strengths in education and economy while also shedding light on areas where improvements can be made.
