The International Chess Federation (FIDE) is planning to break the Guinness World Record for the most chess games played in 24 hours on July 20, 2024. This event will coincide with FIDE’s centennial celebration as well as International Chess Day.

Individuals who want to participate can play at least one 5-minute chess game on platforms like chess.com or lichess.com during the allotted time frame. For those who prefer offline participation, a list of events can be found on the FIDE website.

Event organizers interested in hosting their own tournament can visit the FIDE website for details on eligibility criteria and registration will be open until July 15, 2024. Results confirming the number of games played must be submitted after the attempt.

Registration for tournaments participating in the Guinness World Record attempt will begin in May, and more information and updates can be found on the official FIDE Guinness World Record attempt page.

Guinness World Records has become a global authority on record-breaking achievements since its origins from resolving disputes in pubs with a book of facts, evolving into a worldwide brand with offices in London, New York, Beijing, Tokyo, and Dubai. Beyond its iconic book, Guinness World Records now includes TV shows, social media, and live events to document extraordinary accomplishments worldwide.
