In a letter on their Facebook page, Ferri’s IGA Supermarket in Murrysville, Pennsylvania announced that they will be closing after 70 years of business. The supermarket opened in 1954 and was owned by the Ferri family until it became unprofitable due to various challenges in the industry. Despite their commitment to quality products and personalized service, they found it difficult to thrive.

One major setback for the supermarket was the unexpected departure of Mainline Pharmacy, a tenant that was forced to close nine of its stores earlier this year. The loss of Mainline Pharmacy as a tenant led to a sales decrease of over 20%. To help customers through this difficult time, Ferri’s IGA Supermarket will be offering a 10% discount on all items except for tobacco and milk products starting today.

As he reflects on his time working with Ferri’s IGA Supermarket, he expresses gratitude for the memories created over the years. The store will remain open until the end of May, and the Ferri family expressed their commitment to continuing contributing to the community even after their store closes.
