Recently, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation announced that they had thwarted a terrorist attack planned in one of Moscow’s synagogues during a mass gathering of citizens. The suspect, a native of a Central Asian country, was arrested on April 10 after providing armed resistance and being neutralized by return fire. The FSB did not disclose the suspect’s name or citizenship.

According to the FSB report, the suspect had made contact with individuals involved in terrorist activities while serving time in prison for a previous criminal offense in his home country. Influenced by these individuals, he adopted the ideology of an internationally banned terrorist organization. Upon his release in November 2023, he moved to Moscow and began preparing for a terrorist act by conducting reconnaissance around a synagogue and acquiring materials for an improvised explosive device.

During a search of his residence, law enforcement officers found and seized a ready-to-use explosive device and explosives. This operation prevented a potentially devastating attack on the synagogue in Moscow. The FSB’s prompt action demonstrates their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in the region.
