Apple has made changes to its repair service, allowing the use of parts from used devices as long as they do not compromise user security or privacy. This new repair process will reuse parts from used iPhones, giving users more options while reducing electronic waste.

The privacy and security of iPhone users are at the forefront of Apple’s new repair process. The company has designed a process that ensures that biometric sensors for FaceID and TouchID can be changed with new iPhone models, while maintaining the functionality of the parts. Calibration will be carried out on the device itself after the installation of new or used original Apple components.

To prevent the sale of stolen iPhone parts, Apple is extending Activation Lock to parts and restricting calibration capabilities for parts obtained from devices with Activation Lock or Lost Mode enabled. Additionally, starting in the fall, the repair history will be expanded so that second- or third-hand iPhone users can see the repairs and parts changes.
