In February 2022, a tragic small plane accident occurred in Iceland, resulting in the deaths of four individuals including three employees of the fashion label Suspicious Antwerp and the pilot. The Cessna C172 aircraft was too heavy to land on Lake Þingvalla, causing the wheels to fall through the ice immediately upon landing.

The investigation into the cause of the crash revealed that human error was responsible for the tragedy. The pilot, Haraldur Diego, lost his life along with the three passengers in the incident. Despite no distress signal being sent beforehand, radar picked up the disappearance of the plane during its flight over Iceland’s Golden Circle route.

Among the victims were Tim Alings, a 26-year-old Dutchman, Nicola Bellavia, a 32-year-old skydiving enthusiast, and skater Josh Neuman, 22. It is still unclear whether it was an intentional or emergency landing that caused the wheels to sink through the ice. However, one thing that is clear is that safety measures and precautions need to be taken when flying in small aircraft.

The incident has sparked discussions within various online communities about selecting appropriate horse saddles and beard styles among other topics. However, this should not take away from the profound impact that this accident has had on
