After leaving the Cowboys for a year with the New England Patriots, running back Ezekiel Elliott is returning to Dallas to reunite with his former team. Despite spending $70 million in his career with the Cowboys, Elliott has signed a one-year, $3 million deal with $2 million guaranteed.

After being drafted in 2016, Elliott spent seven seasons with the Cowboys before leaving for the Patriots in 2022. However, during his time away from Dallas, rumors of a potential reunion began circulating after Pollard left for Tennessee and Elliott’s uncertain future became clear. After meeting with the team just before the 2024 NFL Draft, it was evident that both parties were interested in working together again. With Dallas not selecting a running back in the draft, bringing back Elliott was the next move.

While Elliott’s reduced salary reflects his declining on-field performance and current market trends for running backs, he is excited to prove himself once again in Dallas. Despite not reaching 1,000 rushing yards since 2021 and having a lower average per game in 2023, Elliott believes he has more to give to his team. The Cowboys are optimistic that they can reignite his career and help him return to top form.

Elliott’s return to Dallas marks a new chapter for both him and the Cowboys as they look forward to what the future holds for their star running back.
