Kaua’i District Health Office (KDHO) is hosting an open house on Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., as part of the celebration of National Public Health Week. This event, which takes place on Umi Street near the elections building and Central Pacific Bank building, will provide an opportunity for the public to engage with Hawai’i State Department of Health staff.

Dr. Janet Berreman, Kaua’i District Health Officer, expressed excitement for the event, stating that National Public Health Week encourages exploration of the various programs and services offered by the Department of Health. The aim is to enhance the well-being of the community through collaboration with community members and partners. This event serves as a way to show gratitude to the community for their ongoing support in creating a healthier and thriving Kaua’i.

Attendees at the open house will have the opportunity to learn about public health career paths and educational opportunities. Various Department of Health professionals, such as vector control experts, community health workers, public health nurses, and mental health professionals, will be available to provide information. Additionally, visitors can also explore different programs and actions they can take to address public health challenges.

National Public Health Week is observed during the first week of April across communities in the United States. This year’s theme emphasizes “Protecting, Connecting, and Thriving: We Are All Public Health,” highlighting that it takes a collective effort from everyone in society to improve our nation’s health
