Ethiopian Athlete Tsigie Gebreselama Sets US All-Comers’ Record in Women’s 10,000m Race at The TEN Event

Ethiopian athlete Tsigie Gebreselama made history by setting a US all-comers’ record in the women’s 10,000m race at The TEN event in San Juan Capistrano, California. The event was part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver series and took place on Saturday (16). Numerous athletes aimed to hit the Olympic standards for Paris, which were 27:00.00 for men and 30:40.00 for women.

Gebreselama, who won a silver medal at the world cross country championships, ran a personal best of 29:48.34. This time placed her ninth on the world all-time list. She had recently won the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon in a personal best time of 1:05:14 and took the lead in the 10,000m race to become the first woman to break the 30-minute barrier on US soil.

In the men’s race, Grant Fisher emerged victorious in a highly competitive field by finishing in 26:52.74. This time was enough to beat his 21-year-old US compatriot Nico Young, who set a US collegiate record of 26:52.72. Fisher and Young were among eight athletes who surpassed the Olympic entry standard in their respective races. Other notable finishers included Andreas Almgren from Sweden, Mohammed Ahmed from Canada, and Habtom Samuel from Eritrea.
