Hospice of Santa Barbara and Sansum Clinic are teaming up to offer a free, two-part advance care planning workshop. The workshops will take place on April 25 and May 2 at the Ridley-Tree Cancer Center in Santa Barbara. During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to complete an advance directive, a legal document that outlines their healthcare wishes. This document is crucial for ensuring that their wishes are respected by family, friends, and medical professionals.

On the first day of the workshop, trained advance care planning facilitators will discuss different healthcare decisions to consider and help participants select a person to manage their healthcare if they are unable to do so themselves. On the second day, participants will receive one-on-one counseling and review of their advance directives. Notarization services will also be available for free, and completed advance directives can be sent to Sansum Clinic and Cottage Hospital.

Advance care planning is important for adults at all stages of life. By taking the time to plan for the future, individuals can avoid unnecessary conflict and ensure that their wishes are honored. Registration for the workshop is required, and free parking is available. To sign up, email healthed@sansumclinic.org or call 805-681-1793.
