Aaron LaBerge, Disney’s top technology officer who has played a significant role in the company’s recent streaming efforts, will be departing from his position in June for personal reasons. As reported by CNBC citing an internal memo from the company, LaBerge will be joining gambling giant Penn Entertainment, specifically working with ESPN Bet, Disney’s newly launched sports wagering service.

In his new role as chief technology officer at Penn, LaBerge will be leading a multinational team of technologists and will serve as the key business leader for the company’s interactive division. This move comes after LaBerge spent over two decades at Disney, where he played a crucial part in the consolidation of Disney and Hulu under one umbrella following Disney’s acquisition of Comcast’s stake in the streamer for over $8 billion last year.

LaBerge also played a significant role in incorporating advertising into Disney’s streaming offerings, as noted by CNBC. This shift in leadership comes at a time when the streaming industry is highly competitive, and companies like Disney are continuously working to innovate and improve their services.
