This week, the criminal trial of former president Donald Trump in New York entered a new phase. Witnesses will be heard and accusatory arguments against Trump regarding the alleged purchase of silence from porn actress Stormy Daniels will be presented. The former president is accused of hiding payments he made to Daniels for her silence about an alleged extramarital affair they had ten years ago.

The prosecution alleges that the expense Trump incurred was actually a campaign expense that he hid, which is why he must stand trial. The trial began with a small group of protesters outside the court against the former president. During the trial, Trump has classified the case as “clear electoral interference” and has always denied the alleged relationship with Stormy Daniels. The jury, made up of 12 people, will hear arguments from prosecutors who filed the complaint against Trump.
