On April 10, 2024, Eugene A. Tighe Middle School students and their families had the opportunity to participate in STEM Night. The event featured a series of educational and entertaining activities related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The activities were organized into different stations, each with clear directions, materials, and an expected outcome for exercises. Volunteers from the Eugene A. Tighe Middle School National Junior Honor Society assisted students at each station.

In the gymnasium, students spent 45 minutes to an hour completing all the tasks provided. They received a sticker on their “STEM Passport” at each station to mark their completion of the tasks. This year’s activities included building Newton’s Disc, creating optical illusions, examining a real sheep’s brain, demonstrating why insulin cannot be taken as a pill, exploring humans as electrical conductors and constructing the tallest building from paper and tape.

Science teacher Chelsi Crompton showcased a real sheep’s brain to the students during STEM Night, adding an interactive and hands-on element to the event. Overall, STEM Night was a great success in engaging students in various STEM activities and fostering a love for learning in these areas.
