In the field events, American Shelby McEwen and Chinese Gong Lijiao secured their first Diamond League wins in the men’s high jump and women’s shot put respectively. McEwen surpassed Mutaz Barshim with a jump of 2.27m, while Lijiao won with a throw of 19.72m, outperforming World Champion Chase Jackson who came in third with a throw of 19.62m.

In the women’s discus, reigning Olympic champion Val Allman set a meet record with a throw of 69.80m, extending her winning streak to seven competitions. Meanwhile, in the men’s triple jump, Pedro Pichardo also set a meet record with a jump of 17.51m, defeating reigning World Champion Hugues Fabrice Zango who finished with a jump of 17.12m.

Sha’Carri Richardson opened her 200m season against a field of runners she had never lost to in a final at the distance. However, 19-year-old Torrie Lewis surprised Richardson by winning the race (22.96) in her first-ever Diamond League event. Richardson finished in second place with a time of 22.99.
