A 37-year-old woman who received filler injections to enhance her nose and cheeks experienced complications that led to an embolism and hospitalization. She underwent the procedure at a spa owned by an acquaintance, but soon after, she developed pain at the injection site and signs of malnutrition in various areas of her face. Despite receiving dissolving medicine at the spa, her condition did not improve, and more blisters appeared.

Upon arriving at the National Dermatology Hospital four days later, the patient was diagnosed with embolic complications from incorrect injection techniques by an untrained individual. Dr. Ta Thi Ha Phuong from the Department of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and Rehabilitation noted that the patient required antibiotic treatment, on-site care, and psychological support, anticipating potential medical sequelae.

Filler injections are a popular cosmetic procedure used to enhance facial features and address imperfections such as sunken areas, wrinkles, and loss of volume. However, the safety and quality of such treatments can vary widely among different facilities. Cases of complications from filler injections are not uncommon, especially when performed by untrained or inexperienced individuals.

Dr. Ha Phuong emphasized the importance of choosing reputable and professional facilities for cosmetic procedures like filler injections. Complications can arise from improper injection techniques or the use of unlicensed fillers, highlighting the need for caution when undergoing beauty treatments. Patients should seek out established facilities with qualified staff and clear safety protocols to minimize the risk of complications.
