American businesses are being urged to halt shipments of commodities to foreign parties that may transfer them to Russia for use in the conflict. This is a response from the US government, which is taking action to prevent its exports from being used by Russia in its invasion of Ukraine.
The US Commerce Department has sent letters to at least 20 corporations, asking them to stop providing parts that are used in drones and missiles found in Ukraine. The goal is to hinder Russia’s military efforts by cutting off access to Western technologies. However, despite these efforts, American components continue to be discovered in Russian weapons left behind in Ukraine.
Sanctions have been imposed on Moscow by the US and over 30 other nations in an attempt to limit Russia’s ability to wage war. Yet despite these measures, there are still concerns about the risk of products ending up in Russia. Assistant Secretary Matthew Axelrod has announced that letters have been sent to more than 20 American companies listing over 600 foreign parties, asking them to halt shipments due to this risk. Senior US officials are also engaging with company leaders to discuss additional measures that can be taken.
