On March 20, the House Energy and Commerce Committee unanimously passed legislation to renew the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act (H.R. 7153) through 2029. This act provides grants to healthcare organizations in order to offer behavioral health services to front-line healthcare workers. Additionally, the bill would renew a national campaign that offers hospital leaders evidence-based solutions to support worker well-being. If Congress does not act, the law will expire at the end of the year.
In addition to reauthorizing the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act, the committee also passed legislation (H.R. 6960) to renew the Emergency Medical Services for Children Program. This program provides funding for equipment and training to help hospitals and paramedics treat pediatric emergencies. The American Hospital Association (AHA) advocated for funding the program at $28 million for fiscal year 2024.
