Chery, a leading Chinese automobile group, has reached an agreement to produce up to 150,000 vehicles in the old facilities of Nissan in the Barcelona Free Zone. The production is expected to start in 2027 with 50,000 vehicles and create up to 1,250 jobs. The project involves a long-term investment of 400 million euros and will begin rolling out this year with the production of the Omoda 5 model in both combustion and electrical variants.

The alliance between EV Motors, a Spanish brand owned by Ebro Factory, and Chery marks the first time a Chinese manufacturer has produced in Europe. The event was attended by various officials, including Pedro Calef, CEO of Ebro Factory, Pedro Sanchez, President of the Government of Spain, and Jordi Hereu, Minister of Industry and Tourism.

Ebro Factory is a joint venture in which EV Motors is the majority partner. The project plans to expand production processes to include local suppliers and create job opportunities for around 150 employees initially. In addition to producing cars for Chery’s European market entry, Ebro also plans to open a dedicated R&D center in Barcelona focused on adaptations for the European market.
