In response to concerns about young people using skin care products that may not be suitable for their skin, Swedish pharmacy chains have implemented age limits on certain products. Despite these restrictions, youth have found ways to purchase these products. Dermatologists in Sweden are worried about the potential increase in chronic skin issues among young people due to the use of inappropriate skin care products.

In March 2020, Apoteket Hjärtat, a Swedish pharmacy chain, set an age limit of 15 years for some of their skin care products. This decision was made in light of the growing trend of young people spending more money on skin care products that may not be suitable for their age group. Another pharmacy chain, Apoteket, also followed suit by setting age limits for their products.

The popularity of skin care products among young people was evident when a cosmetics chain, Lyko, opened a new store and attracted a large number of teenage customers. While some young individuals believe that everyone should have the right to use skin care products, others think that age limits can prevent young people from using products that may harm their skin in the long run.

Experts interviewed by Swedish Television (SVT) expressed concerns about the potential effects of strong skin care products on young skin. These products often contain perfumes, preservatives, and other chemicals that can be harsh on young skin and lead to chronic skin issues. Apoteket Hjärtat specifically set age limits for products containing acids and enzymes that may be harmful to young skin.

However, it is important to note that setting age limits on these skincare product is just one way to prevent harm to young people’s skins; educating them and their parents about the risks associated with strong skincare product is crucial as well.

While it is essential for retailers to protect consumers from harming themselves by enforcing appropriate regulations such as setting age limits on certain skincare product lines or ingredients; it’s equally important for parents and guardians to educate themselves and their children about what they are putting into their bodies through their daily skincare routine.

Overall, it’s important for both retailers and consumers alike to prioritize education and awareness when it comes to skincare product usage among youth population in Sweden.
