In 2024, a yearlong fellowship opportunity will be available to early-career journalists from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in the United States. This fellowship, known as the Sharon Begley-Science Reporting Fellowship, is designed to prepare journalists for a successful career in science journalism.

The fellowship will take place at STAT’s Boston office from mid-July 2024 to mid-July 2025. The selected fellow will work alongside experienced science and health reporters and editors at STAT to report and write articles for the publication.

The successful fellow will receive a salary of $75,000 and health insurance, as well as 10 days of vacation and standard holidays off. This fellowship honors the late Sharon Begley, an acclaimed science writer for STAT who passed away in January 2021 from complications of lung cancer.

To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must have at least one year of experience in journalism with a focus on science or health reporting. They must also be from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group in the United States. The deadline to apply for the Sharon Begley-Science Reporting Fellowship is April 26th.
