Ron Hyde has been a dreamer since 1995, when he first envisioned a history museum in Sierra Vista. It was only recently that his dream began to materialize, and now the Southern Arizona Museum of Science and Technology is on track to open its doors. As curator of the museum, Hyde spent over 40 facilities before settling on the perfect location for his creation.

To bring the museum to life, Hyde teamed up with Roger Weller, a former geology professor at Cochise College and member of the Huachuca Mineral and Gem Club. Together, they hope to showcase the rich history of Cochise County through beautiful minerals, fossils, and natural history exhibits. Visitors can also expect to learn about STEM topics as well as how tourism can boost the local economy.

The museum will be open from Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with suggested donation rates for admission. Blake Phillips, a reporter for KGUN 9 who grew up in Sierra Vista and studied journalism at Missouri School of Journalism before working for an NBC affiliate in Columbia, is excited about this new addition to his hometown community. He encourages people to share their stories and important issues with him via email so that he can continue covering local news updates on KGUN 9.

Overall, this new museum promises to be an exciting addition to Sierra Vista’s cultural scene while also providing educational opportunities for visitors of all ages.
