The US House of Representatives has passed a bill allocating $60 billion for military and economic assistance to Ukraine in its war against Russia. This is a significant step towards providing aid to Ukraine, after months of delays and opposition. An unusual alliance formed between moderate Republicans and Democrats to push the bill through, resulting in more Democrats voting in favor of the authorization than Republicans proposing the measure.

The delay in passing the bill was due to disagreements over funding transparency, priorities within the US, and immigration issues. However, urgent appeals from Ukraine and a worsening situation on the ground led to a bipartisan effort to move the bill forward. The situation in Ukraine is dire, with Russia launching attacks on civilian infrastructure and increasing casualties. NATO allies have promised to send more air defense systems to Ukraine, and the international community is rallying to support the country in its fight against Russia.

Despite initial opposition and delays, this bipartisan effort marks a significant shift in the political landscape and highlights the importance of providing aid to Ukraine in its time of need. The bill also includes aid for Israel, assistance to allies in the Indo-Pacific, and national security measures. It is expected to pass in a plenary session on Saturday with the support of Democrats and some Republicans.
