A warning has been issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health to residents regarding a recall of eclipse glasses. The recalled glasses were sold through Amazon under the name “Biniki Solar Eclipse Glasses AAS Approved 2024 – CE & ISO Certified Safe Shades for Direct Sun Viewing (6 Packs).” The glasses in question are labeled as “EN ISO 12312-1:2022,” but proper safety glasses should carry the ISO designation of 12312-2.

The glasses were sold at various retailers in Southern Illinois, including Farm Fresh Market in Breese, IL, Highland Tru Buy in Highland, IL, Perry County Marketplace in Pinckneyville, IL, Sinclair Foods in Jerseyville, IL, Steelville Marketplace in Steelville, IL, and Big John Grocery in Metropolis, IL. Many of these stores have taken to social media to warn customers about the recall. For example, Farm Fresh Market in Breese posted on Facebook to alert customers and offer them the option to return the glasses for a refund.

Steelville Marketplace also posted a similar message on social media, notifying customers of the recall and advising them to return the glasses for a full refund. The stores are working to address the issue and ensure the safety of their customers. It’s important for consumers to check the label on their eclipse glasses to ensure that they are safe to use and do not fall under the recalled category.
