Nurses and health-care professionals working in long-term care homes across Ontario are set to stage information pickets on Friday, April 12th, 2024. These members, who include nurses, personal support workers, and guest attendants, are represented by the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA). The pickets will involve distributing leaflets and picketing in an effort to urge their corporate employers to prioritize resident care over profits.

ONA is a union that represents over 68,000 registered nurses and health-care professionals, along with 18,000 nursing student affiliates, working in various healthcare settings such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics, and industry. The union’s members are advocating for staffing ratios to enhance resident care and equal wages compared to hospitals in order to retain experienced staff in the long-term care sector.

Supporters of the cause are encouraged to join the nurses and health-care professionals at these picket locations. For a detailed list of picket times, locations, and contacts, individuals can visit www.ona.org/nh.
