Michigan Cream & Sugar Ice Cream Company, a Bay City store that is set to open a second location in Saginaw, has been recognized as one of the top small businesses in the state by the Michigan Small Business Development Center. The organization, which offers resources and support to small businesses, announced the winners of its annual Best Small Businesses awards, with Michigan Cream & Sugar Ice Cream Company being one of the 11 recipients.

Located at 160 Uptown Drive in Bay City, Michigan Cream & Sugar Ice Cream Company just reopened for the 2024 season and is planning to open a new store in Saginaw’s Old Town business district this summer. In addition to the Bay City ice cream shop, other mid-Michigan businesses like Brothers Hydrovac from Swartz Creek and ZENlightenment Wellness Center from Alma also received the Best Small Businesses awards.

J.D. Collins, executive director of the Michigan Small Business Development Center, congratulated the winners, highlighting the hard work and passion that goes into running a successful business. “These businesses are an inspiration to us all,” he said. “They are shining examples of what can be achieved when entrepreneurs take advantage of our resources and support.”

The complete list of Best Small Businesses award recipients includes companies like A&S Industrial LLC from Chassell, Anywhere DOT Exams PLLC from Cadillac, and Blue Owl Coffee from Lansing, among others. These businesses will be honored at the 20th Annual Michigan Celebrates Small Business Awards Gala at the Breslin Center in East Lansing in May.
