Mr. Phan, a 43-year-old man, experienced a severe chest pain and difficulty breathing for 5 hours due to hundreds of blood clots blocking most of his coronary arteries. He was rushed to the hospital in Ninh Thuan for emergency treatment, where he was diagnosed with an acute myocardial infarction due to complete occlusion of the anterior interventricular artery.

As a heavy smoker for nearly 20 years, Mr. Phan had an increased risk of blood clots forming in his coronary arteries, contributing to his myocardial infarction. Due to the severity of his condition, he was transferred to Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for critical care. It was a rare case of multiple thrombi blocking the coronary arteries, according to Dr. Huynh Ngoc Long, the Director of the Vascular Intervention Center.

The medical team at Tam Anh General Hospital decided to perform a “dual procedure” for Mr. Phan, combining thrombectomy, microvascular dilation drugs, angioplasty, and stent placement. After the successful intervention, Mr. Phan experienced immediate relief from chest pain and shortness of breath. His heart function improved significantly and he was discharged from the hospital after 5 days of treatment.

Myocardial infarction can occur in young people like Mr. Phan due to various factors such as thrombosis, stress, obesity, unhealthy lifestyle choices including smoking habits, and other underlying health conditions that contribute to increased risk factors like hypertension and lipid disorders. Treatment options include medication and revascularization interventions that aim to improve myocardial perfusion in patients with coronary thrombosis.

To reduce their risk of coronary thrombosis and prevent future episodes of myocardial infarction like Mr. Phan’s case, individuals should adopt a healthy lifestyle that includes quitting smoking habits altogether or reducing smoking intensity if they are unable quit completely entirely.

Regular medication management is also crucial for those being treated for cardiovascular disease using anticoagulants or other medications that help prevent blood clot formation in the heart’s arteries.

In summary, while acute myocardial infarction can be life-threatening like it was with Mr. Phan’s case due to multiple blood clots blocking most of his coronary arteries; there are ways to prevent such cases by adopting healthy lifestyles such as quitting smoking habits altogether or reducing them gradually if not possible entirely.

Furthermore regular medication management is also essential when treating cardiovascular diseases using anticoagulants or other medications that help prevent blood clot formation in the heart’s arteries.
