In 2022, Audacy made the sudden decision to replace all local programming and on-air hosts with CBS sports content at Milwaukee sports-talk station WSSP-AM (1250). However, this move did not mean the end of local programming at the station. According to Radio Insight’s report on Thursday, WSSP will introduce a new local show called “Wisconsin Sports Daily” airing from 2 to 5 p.m. on weekdays beginning April 15. The show will be hosted by Steve “Sparky” Fifer, a seasoned sports-talk veteran who remained with the station in the role of assistant program director after Audacy made the switch.

Audacy laid off all 12 on-air personalities at WSSP when they opted for national CBS sports content over local programming in 2022. This move came as part of a broader trend in the industry, with iHeart radio stations also undergoing job cuts during that time. Despite the changes, Fifer’s “Wisconsin Sports Daily” hopes to bring a local perspective back to the airwaves and offer a platform for discussing sports news and topics relevant to the local community.

Fifer is excited about this new opportunity and looks forward to bringing his experience and expertise to his new role. He said in an interview that he is thrilled about being able to provide listeners with local insights into sports news and topics that are important to them. With this new show, he hopes to create a unique platform for discussions that are both informative and entertaining.

The decision by Audacy was met with mixed reactions from industry insiders, some of whom saw it as a risky move given the current state of the industry. However, many believe that it was necessary for WSSP to stay competitive in an increasingly crowded marketplace. By introducing “Wisconsin Sports Daily,” Audacy hopes to attract new listeners who are looking for fresh perspectives on sports news and topics.

Overall, “Wisconsin Sports Daily” promises to be an exciting addition to WSSP’s lineup and will undoubtedly attract listeners who are looking for a more localized approach to sports talk programming. With Fifer at the helm, this show is sure to be a hit among Milwaukee sports fans.
