Apple is set to release a new line of Mac computers powered by a family of internal processors called the M4 chips. These chips are designed to boost AI capabilities and are expected to be released between the end of this year and the beginning of 2025. The company recently introduced the M3 processors in October 2023, which were praised for their revolutionary technology and were the first 3 nanometer (nm) chips for computers.

According to Apple analyst Mark Gurman, these new chips will come in at least three models: Donan, Brava, and Hydra. Donan will be used in the basic MacBook Pro, new MacBook Air, and a lower-end Mac mini. Brava chips will power the advanced version of the next MacBook Pro and a more expensive Mac mini model. The high-end Mac Pro will be equipped with the Hydra chip.

Apple’s goal for 2024 is to incorporate AI-powered features into all of its products, with the new M4 chips playing a crucial role in driving these improvements. The company aims to compete with rivals like Microsoft and Google who have been incorporating AI capabilities into their products. These new processors are expected to be discussed at Apple’s developer conference in June.

One of the key benefits of these new processors is that they will enable some AI functionality to run on devices themselves rather than on remote servers, which was not possible before. This will greatly enhance user experience as it will reduce latency and improve overall performance. Additionally, these improvements will extend to the iPhone’s processor as well, as Apple continues to enhance AI capabilities across all its products.
