According to a recent report from sisajournal-e, Apple is planning to use new BRS (Border Reduction Structure) technology to reduce the bezel size on its upcoming iPhone 16 models. This technology allows for a borderless display by minimizing the bezel at the bottom of the panel through a unique copper wiring technique. While efforts have been made to reduce bezels on all sides of smartphones, reducing the bottom bezel has been a challenge in the past. However, with advancements in heat control technologies, it seems that this borderless technology is now more feasible.

In addition to reducing bezels, Apple has been working on integrating the front-facing camera under the display. However, this effort has allegedly been delayed. Minsoo Kang, a senior researcher at Omdia, mentioned that Apple’s plans to hide the camera or Face ID behind the display using UDC technology have faced delays. Originally planned for release this year, it is now expected to be postponed to next year or even later, possibly beyond 2027.

Apple’s display suppliers, such as Samsung, LG, and BOE, have already obtained this technology and are expected to incorporate it into the next generation of iPhone models. It is rumored that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will maintain the same displays as the previous generation, while the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max may feature slightly larger displays.
