The Ann Arbor Green Business Challenge (A2 GBC) is a new initiative launched by the City of Ann Arbor and Ann Arbor SPARK to promote sustainability efforts within the local business community. This program is more than just a certification, it’s a movement to drive a greener and more sustainable future for businesses in the area.
At the launch event held on Tuesday, speakers including Rodger Bowser from Zingerman’s Delicatessen, Yahang Zhang from RRS, and Heidi Poscher from 4th Purpose Energy shared information with interested businesses about the seven key categories that promote sustainability: Energy, Circular Economy, Water, Resilience, Supply Chain, Education, and Mobility. Participants earn points towards different certification levels including bronze, silver, gold and platinum by implementing sustainable practices across these categories.
The A2 GBC recognizes every effort towards sustainability made by businesses. From reducing energy consumption to supporting upcycling initiatives; all actions taken count towards certification levels. By participating in this challenge, businesses can showcase their commitment to eco-friendly practices and earn recognition for their efforts. The top performers at the end of the 4 1/2-month challenge period will be recognized and receive cash rewards for their exceptional achievements and innovative sustainability initiatives.
Ann Arbor SPARK collaborated with Ann Arbor’s Office of Sustainability and Innovations to create this program. Interested businesses can sign up for the A2 GBC by filling out an application form available on their website. More information about the program can also be found there.
