In the Madrid Open singles draw, American teenager Gauff will face Arantxa Rus in her first match. If she manages to win, she may face Amanda Anisimova in the next round. Naomi Osaka is a potential opponent for Gauff in the last 16.

On the other hand, Sabalenka, who has won the Madrid Open twice, will start her campaign against either Magda Linette or Elisabetta Cocciaretto. Danielle Collins could be her opponent in the last 16.

Gauff and Anisimova are among the 13 American women in the draw, which represents the most representation from any country. Gauff has a record of 19-6 this year and is tied for fifth most wins on the 2024 season. However, she has only won once in Madrid, where she made it to the last 16 in 2022. Sabalenka is a two-time champion in Madrid and has defeated world No. 1 Iga Swiatek and Ashleigh Barty in previous title matches. After winning the US Open, Gauff reached a career-high ranking of world No. 3 and earned her first Grand Slam singles title with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 against Sabalenka in the final.
