24-year-old Armand “Mondo” Duplantis has set a new world record in the pole vault discipline at the Xiamen Diamond League meeting. The Swedish athlete cleared 6.24 meters on his first attempt, surpassing his previous record of 6.23 meters which he set in Eugene last year by just 1cm.
Duplantis started the competition at a modest height of 5.62m and smoothly cleared heights of 5.82m and 6.00m before achieving the new world record. This remarkable achievement marks his eighth world record in the pole vault event, further cementing his status as one of the top athletes in this discipline.
American Sam Hendricks finished in second place with a best jump of 5.82m, while China’s Bokai Huang came in third with a jump of 5.72m. Despite their impressive performances, it was Duplantis who stole the show and continued to assert himself as one of the top athletes in the pole vault event.
The Xiamen Diamond League meeting has been an excellent platform for Duplantis to showcase his skills and break records, and it is clear that he will continue to be a force to be reckoned with in this discipline throughout the season.
