Clyde Edwards-Helaire has decided to stay with the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2024 season, after agreeing to a one-year deal. Despite his fall down the depth chart in 2022 due to injuries and Isiah Pacheco’s strong performance, Edwards-Helaire still managed to tally 411 yards from scrimmage on 87 touches during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII win. In his 48 games with 32 starts, he has accumulated 1,845 rushing yards with 12 rushing touchdowns. Additionally, he has caught 89 passes for 765 yards and seven TDs.
The Chiefs had reportedly declined Edwards-Helaire’s fifth-year option last spring, but it seems they have reconsidered their decision and have re-signed him. It is uncertain whether the signing of Edwards-Helaire will impact their pursuit of other running backs such as J.K. Dobbins, who recently met with the Chargers as well. The Chiefs are known for their strong running game and it will be interesting to see how they balance their roster going forward.
