The Mississippi Museum of Natural Science in Jackson is hosting a range of exciting events in April, giving visitors the chance to explore and appreciate the natural world. Charles Knight, Museum Director, is thrilled to provide these opportunities for the local community to come together and learn about the wonders of nature.

One of the highlights of the month is the Solar Eclipse Event on Monday, April 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Advanced tickets are required for this event, with a $10 fee that includes eclipse glasses. Participants can join NASA Astro Camp Specialists and museum educators for hands-on activities and witness the 90% eclipse of the sun. Food trucks will also be available on site for an additional cost.

Another popular event is Naturefest on Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., which includes encounters with live animals from Hattiesburg Zoo and Freedom Ranch Outreach Education, meeting with Crayfish Man, exploring research labs at MMNS, enjoying giant foam party, purchasing plants from Camp Creek Native Plants, visiting “Attack of the Bloodsuckers!” exhibit and navigating Spotter’s Adventure Trail at LeFleur’s Bluff Playground. Food trucks will also be present at this event for an additional cost, and it is included with MMNS Foundation Membership or Museum admission.

On Friday, April 19 from 7:30 to 10 p.m., Moonlight Music & Meteors will take place at “The Den” in LeFleur’s Bluff State Park featuring Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and area physicists, astronomers and NASA solar system ambassadors during Lyrid meteor shower under stars sky above! Advanced tickets for this event are $15 until April 18 at noon and $20 at the door .

The museum located at 2148 Riverside Drive in Jackson within LeFleur’s Bluff State Park has admission prices of $8 for adults, $6 for youth ages 3-18, and $7 for senior citizens ages 60+ years old..
