Chinese technology giant Xiaomi has recently announced the successful sale of its first 50,000 electric vehicles within just 27 minutes of launching its “high-performance sedan and ecological technology” in Beijing. The event was attended by the company’s founder, Lei Jun, who revealed the retail prices for the vehicles, starting from 215,900 yuan (29,866 dollars, 27,667 euros) for the basic model.

Xiaomi’s electric vehicle is a game-changer in the market with its “super power” electric motors that accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.78 seconds and have a top speed of 265 km/h in its highest range. The vehicle comes in three versions – Standard, Pro, and Max – with various colors and different ranges. Lei Jun expressed excitement about the positive response to SU7 and announced that it will be available in 211 stores across 39 Chinese cities within a month of purchase.

The announcement led to an increase in Xiaomi’s shares in the United States by a significant amount of 12.51%. The event was watched by over two million viewers through various platforms worldwide. Around one thousand people attended in person, including CEOs of other Chinese electric vehicle brands. Xiaomi’s entry into the electric vehicle sector marks a new era for sustainable transportation options in China.

While Xiaomi has not yet announced plans to sell the vehicle abroad, they intend to launch more electric vehicle models in the future as part of their goal to become one of the top five electric vehicle manufacturers globally within the next fifteen to twenty years.
