This meeting marked Blinken’s second visit with Xi in Beijing as both leaders discussed growing issues in bilateral relations. While Wang Yi warned of negative factors increasing tensions, Blinken assured that the US would address areas of disagreement clearly and directly. The visit followed US Senate approval of a bill requiring ByteDance to sell TikTok within nine months.
In response, ByteDance stated its intention not to sell TikTok despite US legislation, planning to challenge the law in court. This development has added tension to US-China relations with implications for technology companies operating between the two countries.
