In recent years, the world of eSports has seen a growing number of female gamers, with approximately 48% of gamers worldwide being female. However, despite this progress, there are still barriers to overcome in order to achieve gender equality in the industry. This is why Telefónica Hispanoamérica recently organized an online event called “Level Up of Women in eSports,” which brought together professionals from different areas related to gaming to discuss the challenges faced by women in this field.

The event focused on various aspects of women’s involvement in gaming, including sponsorship, public relations, and content creation. Participants included Francisca Sky, a Chilean video game and technology communicator; Estefania Carrera, a sponsorship coordinator at Telefónica Movistar Mexico; Eider Diaz Ascasso, head of communication at CODE SPACE (Spain) and linked to the world of eSports; and Anita Balanzategui, head of sponsorship at Telefónica Movistar Ecuador.

During the event, the panelists shared their experiences and insights into how they were able to work in areas related to eSports despite not having direct experience in video games themselves. They emphasized the importance of breaking down barriers for women in eSports and creating more opportunities for them to participate in tournaments without fear of harassment or discrimination. They also highlighted the need for alliances between different groups interested in ensuring the safety and well-being of women and children involved in eSports.

Overall, the panelists made it clear that gender is not a determining factor in eSports but rather skills and talent are what matter most. They called for ongoing conversations and initiatives to support and empower women in this field so that they can continue to grow and succeed as players or professionals involved
